Amnesty International
by Ella Hurley
Every year in a freshman class the students complete a project called Amnesty International. This project is about human rights all over the world. The students will write a letter to a person that is on the website. This project started about two years ago by Ms. Kerr (a freshman English teacher) who was involved with Amnesty International in college. Students will start doing this project after they read the book “Night” by Elie Wiesel and watch a movie called “Hotel Rwanda’’. In the past couple of years, this project has been completed, with four letters being successful. Many students like doing the Amnesty International project because it proves that writing is a powerful thing.
If you would like to send a letter, please send an email to wright.amnesty.usa.org. Letters will be collected until the middle of January 2020.

The Spirit of Christmas
by Sarah Hurley
The magic of Christmas comes alive during the holiday season! Many dedicate their time to decorate their homes with a display of lights, inflatables, and other holiday decorations. The joy of it all is when you see young children staring at the festive homes in awe.
Over the weekend, I had the opportunity to drive around and view the decorations in Deptford. The following pictures are just a few examples of the holiday spirit shown throughout our town.
House One:
House Two:
House Three:
While all of these homes look impressive, my favorite is the second picture. I love how the decorations surrounding the house help give off a warm and welcoming feeling. Out of these three pictures, do you have a favorite? If so, which one would it be?
